Guardians of the Gulf: Saving Sea Turtles from Ghost Nets

Abandoned fishing nets, often referred to as Ghost Nets, are among the most silent and deadly threats to marine life in the Arabian Gulf. These nets continue to trap and kill fish, crustaceans, and endangered sea turtles long after they have been lost or discarded by fishermen.

Recently, our tracking system identified a high-risk area near Asker Beach, where several ghost nets were tangled in the seabed. Our specialized diving team intercepted the site, clearing the debris before it could harm the local sea turtle population that frequent these shores. Protecting these majestic creatures is at the heart of our mission. Through education and active recovery, we are working to ensure that Bahrain’s waters remain a safe haven for marine biodiversity for generations to come.
